Cultural Academy : a Valuable Cross-Cultural Enterprise

Cultural Academy is committed to making a difference to the experience of students at the University of Surrey. It combines learning through being part of a multicultural society with doing useful things that add value to the multicultural campus society extending the concept of social enterprise to cultural enterprise.

University of Surrey's Cultural Academy aims to:

* Support a culturally diverse community so that participants are able to share their experiences and understandings of culture and its effects on our lives

•* Engage participants in thinking about their own cultural identity
* Facilitate enquiry into our own multicultural campus society
* Influence the university – help us appreciate the cultural dimension of learning for a complex world
* Enjoy learning – help people create a sense of cultural wellbeing
* Help our international students make the transition to a new way of life.

Cultural Academy Principles created by the students
Participants in Cultural Academy must:
1   be true to themselves
2   be open and honest with each other
3   respect each other, themselves and the Cultural Academy
4   help each other in an encouraging and supportive way
5   listen to each other and be respectful and tolerant of each others views
6   be thoughtful while expressing opinions
7   be prepared to share experiences, thoughts and feelings so that the group as a whole can learn
8   avoid stereotyping and prejudice
9   be responsible for their actions (includes being punctual for meetings!)
10 and make the most of the experience AND HAVE SOME FUN!

Do we really realize the fact that in a single photo we managed to capture more than 10 cultures??? Cultures that have their roots in different corners of the Earth! That's a miracle!
